Torit Christmas celebration: A total number of 34 children from the CAPRO orphanage center at Torit as well as about 10 children from the neighbourhood came for this Christmas party.

The christmas gift that we shared at Torit was a pair of new shoes for ALL the children at the Orphanage. Apparently this was a good choice of gift and the children were thoroughly happy given it was an opportunity for some of them to own shoes for the very first time. All the children ate well and there was plenty of food and drinks to go round. The older children played crossword puzzles and the younger ones lego games.

A huge thank you to everyone that contributed to making the Speratus 2023 Christmas events in South Sudan a huge success. In total, we shared the joy of Christmas at four locations in South Sudan – in Yei, Torit, Juba and Ajuong Thok to over five hundred plus children. Here are some highlights:

Yei Christmas Celebration: The celebration at Yei was the first of the Speratus sponsored Christmas 2023 events and it held on 25/12/23 with 122 children and 15 adults in attendance. I am told there were lots of fun activities such as games, a quiz, a dancing competition and a nativity story narrative, coupled with lots of drinks and food.

We were also able to kit out a young girls' dancing troupe - the girls are young orphans from the Lighthouse Academy School. It was a great party all in all and the energetic dancing was something I wish I got a chance to participate in!

Juba Christmas celebration: Juba is the capital of South Sudan and the Speratus Christmas celebration was held at the Gorom resettlement and refugee camp. We had over 280 children in attendance. The Christmas gift shared here were clothes. We could only provide clothing for the children between the ages of 2-10 years old. The children and their parents were so excited and couldn't hide their joy as some of them had left their homes to flee from advancing SFR fighters into the resettlement camp without any extra clothing for their children.

Aside from the gift of clothing, sweets, biscuits, drinks and dates were shared to the attendees.

Ajuong Thok celebration: The Christmas party at the Ajuong Thok refugee camp had seventy five (75) children in attendance with some of the mission staff and volunteers. Food, soft drinks, and biscuits were provided to all attendees. The children played games and also got gifts. Unfortunately, the team at Ajuong Thok don’t have access to the internet or a good phone with a camera so no pictures or videos were recorded. But they did communicate the children's appreciation afterwards.

In conclusion, a personal thank you from one of the boys in South Sudan!

Christmas meal 2022

A big thank you to all the kind and very generous donors for another successful set of events. The Christmas parties were held in three towns as usual - Juba (capital of South Sudan), Yei and Torit. There was much excitement building up to each of the parties and it’s a good thing we could sponsor them again, otherwise these young children would have been very disappointed. The young ones were really looking forward to it and come Christmas day, woke up early and started making their way down to the party venue.

Christmas meal 2021

We raised £1,701.12 in total and given this very healthy and generous sum, we were able to do so much more than we could ever have dreamed of last year Christmas in South Sudan. We had Christmas meals at three locations and fed + watered over 400 young people including orphans living at an orphanage in Torit. The huge smiles say it all. The children loved the food and we love their smiles!

A big thank you to all the donors. Merry Christmas everyone!

Christmas meal 2020

Two weeks to Christmas, I certainly wasn't thinking of sponsoring a Christmas party in South Sudan! But then a few things happened per chance. A friend of my parents who is South Sudanese visited and stayed with us for a few days. We all got talking about South Sudan and the difficulties people face there after decades of war. There are so many young people who are homeless and sleeping rough - called 'Street children' even though some of them are in their 20s!

We sponsored a Christmas party in Juba - who doesn't love a party? We got sent some lovely photos afterward. The children did not even mind queuing up to wash their hands in anticipation for the good food afterward:-)!
